A net kill in badminton is basically the ultimate “finish him” move that happens at the front of the court. It’s an incredibly fast, downward shot you hit right at the net when your opponent hits the shuttle too high up. When you pull off a clean net kill, you can end the rally right away, put constant pressure on your opponent and show that you’re controlling the game.
How to Perform a Net Kill in Badminton?
- Use this shot technique when your opponent hits a loose, high shot that goes above the net.
- Move quickly: do a split-step, jump forward and get your racket ready.
- Hit the shuttle early at the top of its arc by snapping your wrist fast.
- Shoot the shuttle down at a steep angle, across the court or into open spaces (especially helpful in doubles matches).
- Get back into position fast and do practice drills to improve your speed and timing.
When to Use It
Opponent hits a weak shot close to the net : Move forward quickly, get your racket ready, flick your wrist or fingers and strike the ball early when it’s at its peak height.
In Singles : Combine straight and angled finishing shots to keep your opponent uncertain, stay away from huge swings and get ready for the following shot.
In Doubles : Target the open spaces or edges of the court to end the rally fast, then get back into position for what comes next.
